Journey Jotters

Bitten by the travel bug

Two years ago, the JJ family visited Panama for spring break. I have posted several of our experiences from that trip here already. One year ago, I asked Sonny JJ to create a short video using photos from the trip with those posts. That little video was uploaded to the JourneyJotters YouTube channel. But I somehow forgot to write a blurb about it here. And that simply won’t do, after all the time and effort that Sonny JJ put into it.

Better late than never, as the saying goes! So here’s the link to the video he created.

Rio Escanela in the Sierre Gorda Biosphere

The morning after we reached Queretaro, we had planned to explore the Sierra Gorda biosphere reserve area. Uriel chalked an itinerary to visit Pinal de Amoles, a small town located high in the Sierra Gorda range, at an elevation of about 7900 feet. Once a mining town mostly covered by the biosphere,  it is now becoming a hub for ecotourism.

screenshot_20200520-221757_outlookOn our way to Johannesburg, we had a stopover in Cairo, for nearly half a day.  Naturally, we decided to use it for a city tour. So the next question became, did we require a tourist visa to do so. Web wisdom suggested yes, we needed one. And both the tour operators I checked with also recommended getting one. One website mentioned that a visa was not necessary for the transit of fewer than 48 hours. But that we would have to hand over our passports to the authorities while we toured the city, something we weren’t willing to risk.

Beach at the Now Sapphire Resort, Riviera Cancun

I am part of a group of eleven women. We hang out often, our kids have grown up together, we have seen each other through good times and bad. A wide age range of nearly ten years separates the oldest and the youngest. Some have kids in graduate school while others have children in elementary. Our diversity adds to the tight-knit nature of our group. And thus it was, in 2017, we planned a girls’ weekend getaway, never thinking that it would actually materialize.

Welcome to the new look Journey Jotters! The kids have been hard at work behind the scenes.

Sonny JJ is pursuing his passion for digital art and animation. In doing so, he created a new, personalised art for the blog header.

Missy JJ is working on changing the theme of the blog site so we can fit in the new header.

As is evident, this project is far from over. The header art is not clearly visible, no matter what device you use. I am sure it’ll need some workarounds and the kids are determined to find a way.

And thus, the header remains a work in progress!

In the meantime, I proudly present the original art work that Sonny JJ has created.

I have been busy with many other things and not found the passion to write. But the urge to post is coming back. So stay tuned!
